Credentials & business

Who we are, how long we've been doing this, and what proof we can put on paper.

What is your NJ Home Improvement Contractor License number?

NJ License #13VH10343500. It's printed on every signed estimate, on our truck, and at the top of our invoice. You can verify it directly with the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs.

How long has Home Line Construction been in business?

Since 2010. Our first job was a stacked stone retaining wall in Lodi — we've been on Market Street in Garfield ever since.

Is Home Line a family-owned business?

Yes. Founded and run by Ardian Guzi, with a four-person crew that's worked together for years. No subcontractors, no rotating subs.

Can you provide references from recent projects?

Yes. With the written estimate we'll include 3-5 recent customer references near your town, and you're welcome to call them directly before you sign.

Do you carry general liability and workers' comp insurance?

Yes — both. Certificate of insurance is available on request and a copy is filed with every permit application we submit.

Estimates & pricing

How we quote, what's in the number, what we ask for up front, and how we handle change orders.

How does the on-site estimate process work?

We schedule a site visit at your convenience — typically within 24 to 48 hours of your call. The walk takes 45-60 minutes; we measure, check footings and drainage, talk through materials, and you get a written estimate within 24 hours.

Is the estimate truly free and no-obligation?

Yes. No fee for the site visit, no fee for the written estimate, and no obligation to hire us if the price isn't right. We'd rather you compare two or three quotes.

How does your written estimate break down costs?

Line by line: labor, materials (with brand or grade where it matters), permit fees, and any contingency for unknowns. No mystery 'project allowance' line items.

Do you charge a deposit before starting the job?

Usually 25-30% at the start of the job to lock in the schedule and order materials. The balance is split between mid-project and final walkthrough — never the whole thing up front.

What payment methods do you accept?

Check or ACH transfer for the staged payments. Credit cards on request, with the processing fee passed through. Cash is fine for the smallest jobs.

Do you offer financing through a third-party lender?

Not directly. Most homeowners we work with either pay out of pocket or use a home-equity line — we're happy to provide the written estimate your bank will need.

Process, scheduling & permits

What to expect from the first call through the final walkthrough — timing, weather, permits, and how we keep the site clean.

How far ahead do you typically book?

Lead time varies by season. Spring and fall: 4-8 weeks out. Summer: 2-4 weeks. Winter: 1-2 weeks for indoor or weather-tolerant work.

Do you work in the winter?

Some work — indoor fireplaces, tuckpointing in mild stretches, demo and tear-out. We don't pour concrete or set pavers when the ground is frozen — too much risk of frost heave.

Which towns require permits for masonry work?

Every town we serve requires a permit for retaining walls over 4 ft and any structural masonry. Most also require permits for concrete over 100 sq ft. We pull the permit directly with the local building department — fee itemized in your estimate, no markup.

What happens if it rains during the project?

We tarp wet work, lock down the site, and pick up when the weather breaks. Your written schedule includes weather contingency days so the end date doesn't slip on the first rainy stretch.

Do you clean up the site at the end of each day?

Yes. We sweep, stage tools, tarp any open work, and move materials off the lawn. The lawn gets a final pass on the last day.

Can I be on site or away during the work?

Either is fine. We don't need you on site, but the crew is comfortable with you watching. We do ask for a contact phone number in case a question comes up mid-pour or mid-set.

Services & workmanship

What we build, how we build it, and the edge cases — small repairs, color matches, drainage, structural work.

What masonry services do you offer?

Stone walls, brick repair and tuckpointing, paver driveways and patios, concrete work, bluestone steps, fireplace surrounds, and chimney rebuilds. Full list with details on the Services page.

Do you do small repair jobs or only full installs?

Both. We do plenty of small jobs — a single cracked step, a few feet of repointing, a chimney crown — alongside larger installs. There's a small-job minimum but it's modest.

Can you match existing brick or stone on an older home?

Usually yes. We source vintage brick from a yard in Paterson when modern stock won't match, and we sample mortar from a hidden joint to color-match in our shop. On historic façades we use lime-based mortar where the original is lime.

Do you handle drainage on retaining walls?

Always. Any wall over 4 ft gets drainage tile behind it and a swale at the top. On steeper grades we add geogrid reinforcement so the wall stays plumb long-term.

Do you do structural masonry — load-bearing walls, foundations, lintels?

Yes, for residential scopes. Larger structural jobs may need an engineer's stamp; we coordinate that directly when required.

Do you do residential and commercial work?

Both. The bulk of our work is residential, but we've done storefronts, restaurant patios, and commercial repointing in Paterson and Hackensack.

Areas & coverage

Where we work, where we'll travel, and how distance affects pricing.

Which towns are in your standard service area?

Garfield, Clifton, Hackensack, Lodi, Paterson, Wayne, Rutherford, Wallington, Passaic, Fair Lawn, and Saddle Brook — eleven towns across Bergen and Passaic County. See the Service Areas page for details on each.

Do you work outside Bergen and Passaic County?

Sometimes. For jobs within about a 30-minute drive of Garfield we'll usually quote without a travel surcharge. Farther jobs we still consider — call us with the details.

Do you charge extra for travel time to farther jobs?

Within the 25-mile radius, no travel charge. Beyond that we may bill a modest per-day travel allowance, and it's always disclosed in writing before you sign.

Warranty & after-the-job

What we stand behind, what's covered, and how follow-ups work.

What does your 5-year workmanship warranty cover?

If a joint pulls, a wall settles, a step shifts, or a paver heaves due to anything we did wrong, we come back and repair it at no charge. The warranty is signed and written into your final invoice.

What isn't covered by the warranty?

Damage from tree roots growing under finished work, settling caused by major water-table changes, vehicle impact, or finishes affected by deicing salts. Normal wear and tear isn't covered either, but most of what we install doesn't wear out in 5 years.

What if I notice an issue after the job is done?

Call us. We respond within 24 hours and schedule a site walk within the week to assess. If it's covered under warranty, we schedule the repair as soon as weather allows.

Do you offer follow-up site visits after a project closes out?

Yes, on request. We're happy to swing by a year or two after to re-seal pavers, refresh joints, or assess seasonal movement. It's a separate quote, not part of the warranty.

Still have a question?

Don't see your question? Call us.

We're happy to talk through anything specific to your project — materials, drainage, lead time, permitting in your town. No scripts, no high-pressure callbacks.
